In 2004 Jan returned to Boulder after living in Brooklyn, New York for 18 years. In New York, she fell in love with the people, and the arts - both the fine arts and martial arts. She studied painting in New York (she earned her M.F.A in painting from Hunter College in 1990), along with martial arts. Like these arts, Chinese medicine is beautiful. She returned to Colorado in 2004 to be close to family and the mountains.
